Wickeder Profile Walzwerk uses steel to produce profiles. Steel is a raw material that can be recycled time and again without any losses.

A decisive factor for our commitment to steel is the fact that this material and its by-products can be recycled without any losses. Recycling steel scrap significantly reduces greenhouse gases such as CO2 and the mining of iron ore, so that on balance resources are saved. Steel products can also be recycled repeatedly without any loss of quality. The reduction of primary raw materials also saves energy.

Steel recycling in comparison

Other materials that are frequently used in the metalworking industry such as aluminium are less suited to environmentally-friendly recycling processes. Although most aluminium scrap can be reused after analysing the grade purity, a substantial amount of bauxite (aluminium ore), chemical additives and a lot of energy are always needed to produce aluminium.

In addition, unlike steel production, aluminium production also entails other aspects with a negative impact on the environment such as high electricity consumption, poorly degradable heavy metal residues and the use of caustic soda.
